Idiom of the Week – Week 4

Each week of 2017 we present an English idiom.

“to beat someone to the punch”: to do something before someone else does it

Example 1:  Oh, hello, Zach, I just wanted to phone you. Looks like you beat me to the punch.

Example 2:  Our competitor beat us to the punch and hired one of the best young graduates in the field.
